PASTOR

Immanuel Lutheran Church appointed John S. Keogh as its pastor in December of 2018. Pastor John and his husband Stephen live happily with their two beloved cats in the church parsonage.
Pastor John begins each Sunday service with the proclamation of Psalm 118 – “This is the day the Lord has made!” The congregation joyfully responds, “Let us rejoice and be glad in it!” For truly, every Sunday is a little Easter. We are a Resurrection church. Pastor John prays that all members and visitors feel that joy when they worship at Immanuel.
Pastor John received his MDiv (Master of Divinity) at The General Episcopal Seminary in New York City. While attending seminary, Pastor John came to love the Episcopalian “high church.” It reminded him of his time growing up as a Roman Catholic. Pastor became a member of the ELCA in 2011. Today he admits to being a “high church” Lutheran. Services at Immanuel follow the traditional Lutheran liturgy, but it is NOT “high church” – there is no incense or bells and whistles – just good Lutheran hymnody and preaching.
Pastor John has office visits during the week to offer pastoral care or just to talk. He loves having visitors! But in the event of an emergency, please contact Pastor at any time on his cell phone, 646-321-6552
